The Top Online Sports Bets of the Month – October

| 09.10.16 | 0 Comments

Another month of exciting sporting action lies ahead. Whether it’s the climactic stages of the Formula 1 season, Gareth Southgate’s audition as full-time England manager, the richest event in the racing calendar, or the reliably fiery prospect of Liverpool visiting Old Trafford, interesting betting opportunities abound. Let’s take a look.

F1 – Japanese Grand Prix (7-8 Oct)

With the F1 season coming into its final stages, and with Mercedes teammates battling it out for whatever points they can, the Japanese Grand Prix even more exciting than usual. Hamilton and Rosberg may be teammates but on the circuit there’s nothing but rivalry.

The Suzuka track is one of the greatest tracks in modern racing – it’s a test of car and driver ability, and a track where the best will prevail. This will pave the way for the F1 champion to emerge, it’s down to the two Mercedes teammates now. The top five teams in F1 have all chosen different tyres for this Grand Prix, even Hamilton and Rosberg have a different tyre setup. It will surely be a must-win race for either Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg depending on the outcome of the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Who will come out and take the lead in the title race? Well, surely that’s worth a bet! Outright winner, and top 3 finishers will be my choice of bet and I’d opt for Rosberg on this one with his current form this season.

FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Slovenia v England, Germany v N Ireland, Slovakia v Scotland (11 Oct)

The Home Nations are back on the slow and steady road to qualifying for the next World Cup, with England, Northern Ireland and Scotland all playing on the same day, there’s an opportunity to add some extra excitement to the fixtures.

England’s recent controversies, combined with an ongoing national debate over the inclusion of captain Wayne Rooney, will surely have an impact on their performance, and at this stage, who knows how the team will respond.

Northern Ireland have put in some impressive performances recently but they come up against a dominant Germany team, while Scotland’s poor form will need to improve against a strong Slovakian side. I’d go for a threefold and have all home nations to draw. The odds will be very favorable and I think it’s very possible.

Northern Ireland’s goalkeeper Michael McGovern always puts in a decent performance but will he hold off the World Champions? Either way, a threefold will add some fun to what will surely be a disappointing performance from the home nations.

Horse Racing – British Champions Day, Ascot (15 Oct)

The British Champions Day is back and it’s the finale of the European Flat racing season. It’s also the richest race day in the British racing calendar, with the world’s best horses and jockeys competing for their prize and piece of history.

The race day features end-of-season championship races for Ten-furlong horses (The Champion Stakes), Milers (The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes), Sprinters (six furlongs), long distance horses (two miles) and Fillies and Mares (one mile and four furlongs).

There’s plenty of betting opportunity here if you know your horse racing, and if you don’t it doesn’t hurt to place a small wager on a long-shot accumulator that could win you serious moneyI like to place a small bet on 6/7-fold accumulator while picking each way bets for each race.

Premier League Football – Manchester United v Liverpool (17 Oct)

It’s one of the biggest fixtures in the Premier League calendar and one that many fans can’t wait to watch. There’s a huge rivalry between these two teams, but what’s more exciting is the attack-minded Jürgen Klopp facing the newly attack-minded Jose Mourinho.

These two managers have not faced off too many times before but their charisma and attacking tactics will make for a very entertaining match. Jose Mourinho is trying to make his Manchester United side more attacking and return to the Manchester United of old unlike his very defensive tactics at Chelsea. Klopp has always been about scoring goals and his Liverpool side seem to be doing just that.

This fixture bears all of the hallmarks of a high-scoring game, it will be interesting to see what tactics will be put in place by both managers. There’s some tasty betting potential here, both teams will surely score and I can see Ibrahimović getting a goal, as he usually does on big occasions. I will certainly put my money on that bet.
